Monster Island

Loved and hated this game. This world view was done with Drew Johnson, still one of the best artists I've had the opportunity to work with. I loved the little island full of bad B Movie Monsters.

Rushed, but done.

Why is it that when you start working for a living you have no damn time to make cool shit anymore? It seems like I spend most of my day working on other things that I find so much less interesting. I need to find a solution for this problem. There is so much wrong with this rushed piece, that I sort of want to bring it to my students and dissect it. But I love the idea of the stasis pod done in turquoise and brass, with bits of organic metals...I should devote more than a handful of hours and do this properly.

This could be better.

Title says it. But, still...I set out with an hour cap as the goal and it's not atrocious for the time investment. I've decided I'll start doing the sketch a day up again, with the 1-2 hour limit. Even if what comes out isn't brilliance liquefied, its damn good practice.

Damn, it's been a year and I think this was a staff...

It's been a while.

Just getting some stuff out and up to get back in the habit. Most of it's old, some of its good...some not. Regardless, need the blog to live, so here we go.

SyFy Monster Island

So, realizing that being Art Director for a particular title translates to barely any content, largely due to a life owned by Excel Sheets and meetings. I feel like to showcase any of my supposed skills requires a redirect to the actual game itself. Sean Lane, Drew Johnson, Kristen Scallion,  Meta 3D and Concept Art House all contributed to some of the best graphics I've had the opportunity to see or manage. Without them, it would have all been sadness and fail, with them, it was all coherent glory.

So... check out SyFy Monster Island on Facebook, and enjoy!

Monster Island World Map

Drew Johnson and I created the artwork for the world inhabited by vicious and ridiculously large creatures, that threaten to bite your face! It was a team effort and it turned out gorgeous. I was thrilled to work on this with a talented artist.

Sallie!

So, the name Sallie Smith, its so generic it rocks. When asked to create a character concept completely cold, I used this name and am still happy with it. Long life, Sallie!

Octopus: Preproduction

Look at that lovely mounting.

Hello World.

Sooo.... I have been out of the loop for months, working on a fantastic title that I am extremely proud of, with a team that kicks so much ass its not legal (in like, 3 states).  It launched last Monday on Facebook so I can now show some of the stuff that's been living on my hard drive. Yay!

Work in Progress

Wanted to do an Alphonse Mucha inspired piece, with mermaid sisters. Am still very much in the beginning but am loving it so far. Will redo the decorative edging and simplify the shading on the front sister, but thought I'd post an in progress shot.
